:: Joining SCLTC ::

SCLTC is a group of LEGO enthusiasts from the Southern California area that creates, displays, and operates LEGO train layouts at venues such as theme-parks, museums, schools, and county fairs.

We welcome new members of all ages and abilities, with the following considerations:

  • We primarily seek expert LEGO builders.
  • A typical member owns hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of bricks.
  • Member commitments to participate in a particular show must be honored because track layouts with holes in them just don't work! A member’s job/school/life must be compatible with any commitments made.
  • We hold shows all over our membership area. Members should expect to spend at least 12 days per year (this year we have shows in San Diego, Yorba Linda, Ontario, and Brea) talking with visitors and running the trains.
  • Most of our members bring one or more 30" x 30" or 30" x 60" section(s) of a layout to an event. More is desirable. Members must have the means to transport their creations and themselves to events at diverse venues. (The club may provide transport for larger sections.)
  • Event planning is done almost entirely via the Internet. Members need to be comfortable with the Internet, have access to a personal computer and printer, and a personal email address.
  • We have members under the age of 18, but they must be accompanied by a responsible participating member over 18 at all club events.
  • We charge a one-time fee of $50.00 to join and $10 dues every 6 months. The one-time fee includes first 6 months dues, an embroidered denim club shirt, club business cards, personalized labels for creations, a club email account, and access to the club email list. Collecting semi-annual dues helps us keep our roster current.
  • SCLTC is not a formal club and has very limited group resources. The URL, website, trademarks, and most of the infrastructure (tables, DCC, wiring) are the personal property of some members.
  • SCLTC is not a democracy (we tried that). Those who do the work make the rules. We strive to accommodate as many members' interests as possible.
  • We meet in person a few times a year to discuss upcoming events (layouts), kibitz, and socialize, but the bulk of member “club” time is spent creating models at home or manning layouts at shows.

If you desire additional information, you are welcome to email.
